The Balgüe Petra Bible Church, on Ometepe Island, was launched November 11, 2012, and it is the first church planted by Petra Managua, the second overall in Nicaragua.
Pastor Edwin Escobar, the lead pastor of Petra Balgüe, trained to become a pastor in the Petra Managua Church. Pastor Edwin was born in Santo Tomas Chontales, Nicaragua in May of 1977. His wife and daughter, Eslie and Abigail, left Managua with him on February 2, 2012. Since then, he has had two boys, Caleb and Samuel. Pastor Edwin has a God given heart for the people of Ometepe Island; he is an amazing example of love and faithfulness to God.
“Everything I have and all I am is by the grace of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This includes my salvation, my family, and the opportunity to work full time in the ministry. The desire to start a church in Ometepe Island has been in my heart for many years. I was waiting for the moment with patience, while trying to discern the time of God. He has opened the doors to the Gospel, and He has chosen to have churches that proclaim His Name–churches with sound doctrine and churches that make a difference in the society. I am not saying this by emotion because I know that it is Christ who has done everything in my life through the church.” –Pastor Edwin Escobar
The church gathered Sundays in a school near Pastor Edwin’s house, but now thanks to greatness of our Lord and His Faithfulness, Balgüe has its own place (a ranch building made of wood and a thatched roof of plantain leaves).
