Short term teams help blow wind into the sails of our church planters laboring year-round on the field. Petra International Ministries is accepting short term teams to Nicaragua and will look to start sending teams to Colombia as well in the summer of 2021.
Short term teams partner with the Petra churches that have been planted in Managua, Matagalpa, and Chinandega, along with Balgue and Merida on Ometepe Island. The vision is to plant 10 more churches in unreached cities of Nicaragua by 2025. Our ultimate purpose in sending short term teams is to expand the influence of the local pastors/church planters because they are the ones who are present year-round. There are opportunities for VBS, sports ministry, evangelism, and Bible Study, along with fellowship with the church members and pastors.
Teams will fly into Managua and have orientation in the city before traveling out to work with other church plants around the country.
Many cities in Nicaragua have no churches with sound biblical teaching, so the goal is the get the gospel to these locations as new churches are planted. Having teams come in to help with evangelism and discipleship are a huge encouragement to the Nicaraguan leaders and their families!
Pray about becoming one of those teams this year!
Each year, the pastors in Nicaragua will pray about what they would love to see God do in the location of each church plant, and then utilize teams to help them accomplish that. With this approach, we are able to blow wind into the sails of the existing team on the ground.
Mornings will typically include VBS/children’s ministry and assisting with training and/or other projects that are needed to help the local pastor and church. If on Ometepe Island, some mornings will also be spent working on the camp/farm that helps support the churches.
Afternoons will typically be spent doing evangelism house to house and/or using sports ministry as a platform to share the Gospel. Praying over families, sharing testimonies, presenting the Gospel, and helping the local church sow seeds in their community, while seeing who is open to follow-up.
Typically teams will fly into Managua on a Saturday evening. They will go to church on Sunday and have orientation. They will then travel out to the church plant they will be serving with for the week. Monday to Thursday are ministry days, Friday is an excursion day, and teams travel home on Saturday.
We will visit the city of Masaya, grab lunch at a fantastic restaurant, and shop for authentic Nicaraguan souvenirs in a large market. This excursion is included in your trip price.
